The Rafina–Mykonos crossing

Mykonos is one of the most-loved Cyclades, and Rafina is the quickest way to reach it from the mainland. High-speed catamarans make the run in roughly 2 to 2½ hours, while larger conventional ferries take a little longer but ride more smoothly in a swell.

Because the port sits just ~25 km from Athens International Airport, flying in and sailing out the same day is easy — far less hassle than crossing Athens to Piraeus. Sailings are most frequent from late spring through October, with extra departures in the July–August peak.

Tips for this route

  • Book ahead in July & August — the fastest boats and best fares sell out first.
  • Prone to seasickness? The bigger conventional ferry is gentler than the high-speed catamaran.
  • Arrive 30–45 minutes early and keep your e-ticket handy for the gate.
