The Rafina–Andros crossing
Andros is the first and closest of the Cyclades, and it's reached from Rafina, not Piraeus — so this is the route to know. Ferries dock at Gavrio on the island's northwest coast in around 1 to 1½ hours, making Andros an easy first stop or a quick weekend escape from Athens.
Because Rafina sits only ~25 km from Athens International Airport, Andros is one of the fastest island connections in all of Greece. Sailings run year-round, with the most frequent service from spring through autumn.
Tips for this route
- Andros isn't served from Piraeus — always sail from Rafina.
- Year-round island — great for an off-season trip when other Cyclades go quiet.
- Arrive 30–45 minutes early and keep your e-ticket handy for the gate.
