Getting around & good to know

Rafina and the coast around it are made for a particular kind of calm. For some reason this little corner of Attica gathers up so much of Greece at once — the wind, the sea, the light, the food. It's known for its Euboean breeze, its easy pace, and how quickly you can slip away somewhere lovely. (If you're after big nightlife, we'll gently let you down — that's not Rafina.) Here's how to get around, and a few things worth knowing first.

Getting around
  • Public transport is patchy — a rental car or a taxi is far easier
  • There's a taxi rank on the main square, or search "Rafina taxi"; Uber sometimes works too
  • A rental car is the safe bet — you can get anywhere, even on a weekend
  • Family or a big group? A pre-booked transfer is easiest

Where to stay
  • Book early — rooms near the sea go fast in summer
  • Airbnb & Booking have the biggest choice; read reviews and photos carefully
  • Many hosts offer airport/port pickup, free or for a small fee
  • Best areas: Proteas, Panorama, Skalopati, Rafina centre, Eolos, Kokkino Limanaki (Mati & Artemida are lovely, but you'll want a car)
Find a place to stay →
Local know-how
  • The centre is walkable — no car needed for the square, the port or the beach
  • Locals are friendly — ask anyone, or email us at [email protected]
  • Download Wolt for food delivered to your door
  • Every spot below has a map pin — tap it to open in Google Maps with reviews

Watch the traffic on summer evenings. From June to August, ferries land through the afternoon and evening, and Rafina's small streets jam up fast. If you can, avoid driving from late afternoon onward — and skip the car altogether on weekend afternoons; parking is a headache. The centre is tiny, so just walk it.

The 3-day Rafina weekend

A relaxed weekend — town, beaches and a couple of sunsets. Best with a car for the beaches, though the first evening you can do entirely on foot. Every place links straight to Google Maps.

FridayArrive & ease in
  • Getting inYou've probably landed on an afternoon or evening flight or ferry. If you rented a car, the airport pick-up is roughly here. On a transfer, they meet you at arrivals (or at the port) and take you straight to your place.Airport car pick-upRent a car →Book a transfer →
  • A quiet first nightTired? Stay in, have a long shower and order dinner to the door on the Wolt app. Up for it? The square is a short walk and the kitchens run till about 22:30.Rafina square
  • A drink by the waterGot the energy? Stroll the beach for a nightcap at Kraken beach bar — 5 minutes from the square, and the port's even closer. None of this needs a car.Kraken beach bar
SaturdayTown, beach & a sunset
SundayA slow one before you go
  • An early swimYou're travelling tonight or tomorrow, so keep it gentle. Go early to Artemida before the crowds — by midday it fills up. Coffee at Trolley Kafe, which has sunbeds and tables right on the sand, so you swim and sip in one.Trolley Kafe · Artemida
  • LunchArxontikon in Artemida is the easy pick. Didn't have fish yet? Go to I Chira — pricier, but fresh fish like you've never tasted; if the budget's there, no second thoughts.ArxontikonI Chira · top fish, pricier
  • A last drinkBack home for a swim, then a final drink at Faros Bar in Mati or Sante Bar on the square. Travelling with kids? There's a little café on Kalamanli square with drinks, beer, pizza and club sandwiches — and a playground.Faros Bar · MatiSante BarCafé · Kalamanli square · playground

The 7-day Rafina week

Seven days opens up the whole area. A rental car is by far the easiest way to do it — relying on taxis or buses will limit you on time and money. Everything in the weekend plan still applies; these are the extras, grouped by what you're in the mood for.

Good to know

Answers to the most common questions.

Is this free?
Yes — the plans are completely free to follow. We only earn a little if you choose to book something through one of our partner links, and that never costs you extra.
Do you book the trip for me?
No. rafina.info is a local guide, not a travel agency — we don't sell or arrange travel. You book each step (ferries, transfers, tours, car hire, hotels) directly with trusted providers using the links in the plan.
Can I change the plan?
Of course — treat it as a starting point. Mix the days, swap a beach, add an island or skip the Athens trip. Message us on WhatsApp if you'd like a local's opinion.
Which island should I add?
For a short trip, Andros and Tinos are closest to Rafina (≈1–2 hours). Mykonos, Paros and Naxos are direct too — see the Ferries menu.
How do I get from the airport?
Rafina is only about 30 minutes from Athens Airport — much closer than Piraeus. Pre-book a transfer or grab a rental car.
Do I need a car?
Not for the town and port, but it helps for the beaches and the Marathon area. The 7-day plan assumes a car for a couple of days — compare options here.
